Bash Bros - "Bash Bash Bash" (2007)
Chris Batstone - bass, guitar, drums, vocals, keyboards, piano, samples, acoustic bass
me - drums, guitar, bass, vocals, piano, samples, loops, percussion
Six years in the making, 18 tracks, and over 75 minutes long... Bash Bash Bash is the product of my long collaboration with Chris Batstone, my partner in rhythm section crime for almost 20 years. Except for a guest spot or two, Bash Bash Bash was entirely written, performed, produced, mixed, mastered, and the whole shebang by myself and Chris. Features the first single "Invited".

Sean Panting - "Receiver" (2005)
Sean Panting - guitars, vocals
Don Ellis - bass, vocals
me - drums, percussion, vocals
Sean's third solo disc... ten tight little blasts of power trio beauty. Released simultaneously with an acoustic disc, Victrola. Features the single "Solomon's Row". You can also buy this at AtlanticCanadianMusic.com.
Dave Anthony - "31B Victoria" (2001)
Dave Anthony - guitar, vocals
Brad Gover - bass
Oliver Schroer - fiddle
me - drums
Dave's second record, released in 2001. Killer versions of "P Stands For Paddy" and the Stan Rogers classic "Flowers Of Bermuda" stand out, but it all rocks.
Kelly Russell & The Planks - "Smashed Hits" (1998)
Kelly Russell - fiddle, tin whistle, bouzouki, mandolin, concertina, lots o' other stuff
Sean Panting - guitar, vocals
Chris Batstone - bass, vocals
me - drums, vocals
Nine instrumentals and two songs combine traditional Newfoundland fiddle tunes with flat-out, head down guitar crunch.
"It's traditional tunes being reinvented, combining both a respect for the original tune with the sheer unbridled adrenaline addicting rock sounds that Drive has mastered. Russell's violin wails, throwing off sounds you never would've dreamed a fiddle could make. The end result is utterly electrifying." - the evening telegram, nov. 98
"A giddy tour through the Newfoundland psyche and a new definition of soul music from the 10th province... Drive's energy, volume, and verve match Russell's precision and discipline note for note... it's already reserving a space for itself on 1999's best-of list." - the halifax daily news, feb. 99
Drive - "Jehovah's Witness Protection Program" (1997)
Sean Panting - guitar, vocals
Chris Batstone - bass, vocals
me - drums, vocals
Drive's second full length CD. Contains the singles "Nutune", "Best At Doing Nothing", "Slide", and "Hollow".
"JEHOVAH is made up of 12 tracks of unmitigated post-modern, angst-ridden, alternative rock n' roll. Bass, drums, and guitar come together to form a sound that is refreshingly simple, yet undeniably cutting edge." - music east, halifax, oct 97
"For my money, the best unsigned band in Canada" - mike campbell, mucheast, feb. 98
Drive - "Blink" (1995)
Sean Panting - guitar, vocals
Chris Batstone - bass, vocals
me - drums, vocals
The first full length CD from Drive. Contains the first three singles "3 O'Clock Drunk", "Wake Up She Said", and perennial live favourite "Pavlov's Dog". Nominated for Alternative Album Of The Year at the 1996 East Coast Music Awards.
"Every song on Blink screams with integrity. Intelligent puns, classical allusions, well turned phrases - it's pure poetry." - bruce brenton, cbc radio, oct 95
"Not a trace of pseudo-intellectual drivel can be found anywhere... every song strikes like standing in front of a 14 ton bus at the wrong time. Why doesn't every band move to a rather secluded island and become better songwriters?" - the coast, halifax, feb 97
Drive - "prevail" (1994)
Sean Panting - guitar, vocals
Chris Batstone - bass, vocals
me - drums, vocals
Drive's first release, a 5-song e.p. Contains the original versions of "Pavlov's Dog" (which we always preferred to the Blink version), "Pleased To Meet Me", and "Saint Valentine's Day" (a full band version), as well as two golden oldies....
Hey Rosetta! - "Plan Your Escape" (2006)
Tim Baker - piano, guitar, organ, vocals
Adam Hogan - guitar
Josh Ward - bass
Dave Lane - drums
Heather Kao - violin
Tiffany Pollack - cello
me - drums
The Rosetta's first full length is, simply, one of the best CDs ever produced in Newfoundland. Excellent songs, excellent performances, unusual instrumentation, grand-scale epics and little quiet moments. I'm on five tracks here, including the two singles "Lions For Scottie" and "Yes! Yes! Yes!".
The Punters - "Fisherman's Blues" (2003)
Larry Foley - vocals, guitars, mandolin, bass, bass drum, radiator, beer bottles, tambourine, fire bell
Pat Moran - vocals, fiddle, guitars, claves, coins
Chris Batstone - bass
Barry Hillier - bass
Mark Neary - keyboard
Mark Hiscock - accordion
Paul "Boomer" Stamp - drums
George Morgan - drums
me - drums
The Punters fourth CD features a who's who of Newfoundland musicians over 14 tracks. I play on six numbers with three different bass players: "Close Your Eyes" & "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" feature current Punters bassist Barry Hillier; "Flatrockin'", "Young Thing", and "Banks Of Newfoundland" feature former Punter and longtime partner in crime Chris Batstone, and "She Ain't You" features Larry Punter himself holding down the bottom end. These tracks are all pretty much first take, live off the floor recordings, and the energy shows. Nominated for Roots / Traditional Group Recording of the Year at the 2004 East Coast Music Awards.
Dave Panting - "Look Around" (2002)
Dave Panting - vocal, guitar, bass, mandolin
Gail Tapper - harp
me - drums
The Pantings are a hell of a musical family - Dave and Geoff, Sean's brothers, are longtime veterans of such classic Newfoundland acts as Figgy Duff and Rawlins Cross. This record is mostly Dave... I play on one track only, the jazzy / bluesy "May One". Gail Tapper also appears on harp - the kind with strings, not the kind you blow into.
The Punters - "Will You Wait" (2000)
Larry Foley - lead vocals, guitars
Pat Moran - vocals, fiddle, guitars
Chris Batstone - bass
me - drums
The Punters third CD features me on two tracks, "Golden Green" (a cover of a song by The Wonder Stuff, if I recall correctly) and the jokey-raunchy traditional song "Never Been There Before". I recorded both of these tracks on a day when I had thrown my back completely out, and as a result, was pretty loopy on muscle relaxants and various painkillers, legal and not-so-legal... bear this in mind!
Various Artists - "Cover Story" (1998)
Recorded and mixed by Tom Ronan
except "Shock Absorber" recorded and mixed by Don Ellis
Executive producers: Adam Staple & Chris Batstone
COVER STORY contains fifteen of Newfoundland's best bands covering the songs of other Newfoundland bands. Every song is a classic of Newfoundland music, some familiar, some obscure; every band puts their own unique stamp on their performance. What results is a truly innovative collection of styles, spanning punk, ska, rock, blues, funk, rap, industrial, and more! Recorded and mixed in just 14 days by Tom Ronan, COVER STORY is independent music at its most vital. I'm on here twice: with Drive covering Bung's classic "Division", and with the Planks covering a Rufus Guinchard tune "Uncle Harry's Out Of Shape".
The Upsilon Singers - "Bridges" (1996)
John Staple - vocals, guitar
Dennis Knight - vocals, standup bass
Bob Jenkins - vocals, guitar
Keith Noble - vocals, guitar, banjo
me - drums, percussion
Released in 1996, "Bridges" was a fun album for me to play on, as The Upsilon Singers featured none other than John Staple (a.k.a. my father) on vocals and guitar. He actually got to return the favor in 1998 by adding some 12-string acoustic to "Arthur McBride" on the Kelly Russell & The Planks album. The album contains fourteen selections of Newfoundland traditional songs, as well as other folk and pop classics. I play on five tracks.
Adam McGrath & the Tearjerkers - "My Colour Red" (2006)
Adam McGrath - guitars, vocals
Mark Peddle - bass
me - drums, percussion, vocals
